Photography Date Night

Friday arrived as it does at the end of every week, but this one was special. It had been two weeks since our last photography date night, and it was time for our next one. This night would bring us to eat at one of my favorite places.....Chipotle! Both my wife and I had burritos. Mine was steak, hers was chicken. The burrito I had may have been the biggest one I've ever seen! Somehow I managed to eat the whole thing.

Enough about food....After dinner we headed to Longview Lake and found a pathway to explore hoping to stumble onto some deer. What we found was far from being deer, but provided us with plenty of challenging photo opportunities......bugs, water and wildflowers.

Trail at Longview Lake

While following this path into the woods we came across all types of tiny creatures to photograph. The following photos are some of the resulting images from this adventure. Below is a nymph I caught hanging out in a tree just waiting for its picture to be taken. Next is a ladybug....They really are beautiful creatures!

Below is a picture of a dragonfly just smiling away for the camera.

A pair of hummingbird moths were hiding behind a leaf on this tree.

I caught this unsuspecting ladybug lounging on some grass.

After we felt like we had captured enough photos of insects, we decided to focus our attention on wildflowers and water. Below is a photo of a wildflower that I thought was worthy of a photograph.....Queen Ann's Lace.

Although it's a weed, the purple thistle was quite photogenic!

The next picture is also one of purple thistle at a different stage in its life cycle.

The following image is simply one of a dragonfly hanging out atop a blade of grass in front of the water at Longview Lake.

Daisies happen to be the flower my wife loves the most, and this one seemed to be begging for attention.

Wild Daisy

As the sun began to set over the water we snapped a few shots, and ended this part of our photography date night adventure.

Sun Setting Over The Water

From here we continued on our journey to a spot near Kauffman Stadium and tuned the baseball game in on the radio as we listened to the deafening sound of the crowd of spectators cheering on their favorite team.....The Royals of course! Below is a picture of the stadium from the place we chose to watch the fireworks.

Once the game ended it was time for the fireworks display. Below are a few of the images I was able to capture from this event.

The fireworks display lasted for nearly half an hour offering an abundance of photo opportunities.

Throughout our date night we had a blast (no pun intended), and we knew that we had captured some great shots to commemorate this special night.

When heading out for a photography session it is important to remain open minded about it. Nature doesn't always cooperate. Although no deer showed up for picture time, we managed to find other things to capture with the pressing of our shutter buttons. As always, when things don't go as you desire you just have to roll with the flow and make the best of the situation.

- Never leave home with our your camera - you never know what you'll miss!
