Catfish Baits You Have To Try
Because catfish are opportunistic feeders, they will eat just about anything that comes their way. There are a multitude of various baits that can be used for a successful fishing trip. Sporting goods stores have their shelves stocked to the gills with so many different dough bait choices it's almost impossible to figure out which one(s) to try. There are a vast array of dough bait alternatives including live and cut bait as well as prepared baits.
Some of the makers of dough baits include Catfish Charlie, Team Catfish, and Magic Bait. Another popular choice is BJ's, but it seems to have become rather hard to come by recently.
Not feeling the stinky dough bait vibe? It's ok....There are always other excellent options including hotdogs, spam, chicken livers, uncooked bacon, beef livers, shrimp and you can even cut blocks of cheese into hook sized cubes. Try coating any of these options with garlic. Simply place your bait in a baggie, pour in the garlic, work the garlic into the bait and refrigerate for a few hours.
Some live bait ideas are crawdads, goldfish, small bluegill, shad, night crawlers or large minnows. If you don't feel like messing with live bait, you can use any of these as cut baits. Carp, drum and skipjack are also great cut bait choices.
Next time you are fishing and they just aren't biting, try some of these options out. You just might find a new favorite catfish bait.
Anise oil can add an extra kick to just about any bait out there. It can be purchased at any grocery store and is found in the baking aisle. This oil smells like black licorice and seems to be able to get the attention of even the most cautious catfish. Give it a try sometime!
