Harry S Truman State Park In Missouri
The Harry S. Truman State Park in Missouri is one of my favorites. Located just outside of Warsaw, Missouri, along the banks of Truman Lake, this beautiful state park offers many activities for the outdoor enthusiast. Truman Lake is well known for its excellent fishing opportunities and the Harry S. Truman State Park is a great place to set up camp for your fishing and other outdoor adventures.
Fishing:
With access to approximately 54,000 acres of water on Lake of the Ozarks and another 55,600 acres on Truman Lake, there are great fishing opportunities for everyone. Whether fishing from a boat or from the banks of these beautiful lakes, there is no shortage of places to wet your line! One of the popular places to go fishing near Warsaw is below the Truman Dam where Truman Lake overflows into the Lake of the Ozarks. Here you will find several public fishing docks that get you right into the action.
Boating:
The Harry S. Truman State Park in Missouri offers two paved boat ramps offering access to Truman Lake. One is for use of people who are camping in the park and one is located near the marina. The boat ramps offer ample parking for boating and personal watercraft enthusiasts. A public boat ramp offering access to Lake of the Ozarks is located below the Truman Dam near the public fishing docks.
The marina at Harry S. Truman State Park offers seasonal boat rentals for those who want in on the action, but don't own their own boat.
Hiking:
The Bluff Ridge Trail is a two mile long hiking trail that offers stunning views of Truman Lake. While walking this trail you will likely see various birds and other wildlife.
There are six interconnected campgrounds within the Harry S. Truman State Park offering sites for R.V.'s or tent camping options.
Swimming:
There are two swimming beaches with restrooms and changing facilities. One is located within the park itself, the other is near the marina and open to use by anyone who loves to swim.
Metal Detecting:
Metal detecting is permitted in certain areas with a permit. If you want are interested in metal detecting and want to take advantage of this opportunity, simply email your request for a metal detecting permit to moparks@dnr.mo.gov.
Canoeing:
In addition to boating, both Truman lake and Lake of the Ozarks are open to kayaking and canoeing. Set off into the water and let the fun begin!
